Hello again Sierra House!  Sorry I haven’t written a blog in a while! Anyways, we have started to come back 4 days a week! Next week we will be going back to full days, 4 days a week. Sierra House has a STEAM (Science Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) room that we normally use for robotics and making healthy food. In our STEAM room we form groups of 2 or 3 and we practice working together. Sometimes we do art and we have a group and we help each other and work together. Clearly, the STEAM room is pretty awesome!

As of Monday, April 26th, we are back to full school days on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays!  Wednesdays each school will serve the most at risk students for 180 minutes of student contact time. Specifically, teachers identified students that are in need of additional academic support (6-14 per class) and all other students provided asynchronous work activities. We are so excited to have our students with us for longer days!  The support of our families over the past year has been amazing and we cannot thank everyone enough for helping us make learning happen over the course of the COVID pandemic.  This spring we are looking forward to learning together in our classrooms,  planting sunflowers in our garden, eating lunch on the grass and renewing friendships that have been virtual for the past year.

Hi, Sierra House family and friends! My name is Charlotte Huber, a fifth-grade student at Sierra House.  Unfortunately, we had a setback this year. That’s right, you guessed it, COVID-19. With this setback, we were unable to go to school or see our friends and family.  We all figured it out though. Schools figured out how to get back to school.   I am super excited to tell you about our week this week! We have not had any fundraising things to raise money here at Sierra House, but our amazing principal figured out something fun and exciting! A“Read-a-Thon”! The Read-a-Thon is where we could raise money by reading a certain amount of minutes each night, for example, 30 minutes. Family and friends could sponsor us for a certain amount of money per minute, or they could just do a flat donation.  While sponsors weren’t required, they were certainly encouraged. Sponsors helped raise money for equipment and school supplies. The most important thing is that we made time to read more.  There were special prizes won for a certain amount of money we raised.   Here are some things about my school. First, we have Hybrid. In Hybrid, we have two different cohorts. There are Cohort A and Cohort B. Cohort A goes on Monday and Tuesday. The school gets cleaned on Wednesday. Then Cohort B goes on Thursday and Friday.  Sierra House takes precautions with the students and teachers. Most of the teachers have received their second vaccination and are ready to come back to full capacity!  Thank you for reading! We hope to see you come in twice a week, or we hope to see you soon!

Our PTA fundraiser for this year is going to be a Sierra House Read-A-Thon.  The Read-A-Thon will take place February 22nd - February 26th.  All students are encouraged to participate in both the reading and the fundraising.  We will be hosting a Virtual Family Night on Wednesday, February 24th with people from the community reading a story for our kids.  Students will be bringing home information the week of February 8th. There are great prizes and fun activities for those who participate!
