Through the Heavenly/Vail Epic Promise program our school receives
grant support for every one of our students to receive skiing/snowboarding
instruction in grades K-5. Heavenly Ski
Resort is 3.6 miles away from our school.
Each student receives a lift ticket, gear, instruction and support at
their level. This is the 6th year of our partnership with Heavenly! We are very lucky to have this mountain experience as part of our curriculum. The days on the mountain help our students develop confidence and perseverance.
Our goal is to help our students develop a lifelong passion and
aptitude for skiing and snowboarding.
Through a partnership with the City of South Lake
Tahoe and Tahoe Sports and Entertainment, our school runs an ice
skating fitness program that emphasized skating technique, game play and
fitness in the hour after school on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
There are three different sessions throughout the year and this program is free to all students and open to all students within our
district, although only students from Sierra House receive bussing to the ice arena from school. This program not only gives
students access to the rink, but it also builds skating
proficiency, self confidence and related skills that can be used into adulthood.
In addition, our third grade students have a week of lessons on the ice with their classmates to build their proficiency on the ice and give students the capacity to access other arena programs.
The South Lake Tahoe Parks and Recreation Department also provides a week of swim lessons for our 4th grade classes. Living on the Lake Tahoe makes it very important that our students know how to swim and follow basic safety protocols when at the beach, on the lake, or recreating in any of our many rivers and streams.
A huge thank you to all of the people who make these programs possible!
